Jämtlands län en GMO?fri zon I Jämland har vi arbetat drygt ett år för att få länet och dess kommuner utropade till GMO-fria zoner. Två målgrupper har bearbetats mer intensivt, lantbrukarna i länet och Naturskyddsföreningens medlemmar. The aim of foundation of the Association was the support and further development of agrarian sector of Poltava region, rise in incomes of enterprises of region and rural population of Poltava region on the basis of intensification of present cooperation between scientific organizations and industrial enterprises in agrarian sector as well as the organization of official agricultural extension service.

Wer profitiert vom Internationalen Agrarhandel? Diese Fragen und viele andere in dem Themenkomplex Biologische Vielfalt und Ernährungssicherheit, die das Bildungsprojekt Biopoli behandelt, sind nicht nur von essentieller Bedeutung für die Menschen der sogenannten Entwicklungsländer, sondern auch für uns Europäer. Durch unser tägliches Handeln können wir mehr beeinflussen als uns bewusst ist. Von der Auswahl unseres Frühstücks im Supermarkt bis hin zum entwicklungspolitischen Engagement - beim Thema Nahrung kommt niemand um globale Zusammenhänge herum. Daher sollten auch Jugendliche und junge Erwachsene die Möglichkeit bekommen, sich eine eigene Meinung zu bilden.

The German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (Bundesamt für Naturschutz, BfN) is the central scientific authority of the German federal government for both national and international nature conservation. The Agency reports to the German Environment Ministry (BMU) and has key enforcement functions that arise under international species conservation agreements, in marine conservation, under the Antarctic Treaty and the German Genetic Engineering Act. The Agency?s declared purpose is to develop an integrative nature conservation policy. Such a policy unites ecological, economic and social aspects, and mediates between the conservation and use of natural systems. This provides a corrective to the false image of nature conservation as a brake on all economic development.

NECOFA participants develop and promote Ecofarming within their own organization or institution as well as on national level. Basic elements of Ecofarming comprise e.g. the use of alternative plant protection methods, the integration of animal husbandry and plant protection at farm level, soil retention and recuperation technologies, the use of organic manure and multipurpose plants elements that allow rural people to maintain their natural resource base and improve soil fertility: In the long run, it may even be capable of offering solutions to Africa´s large tracts of marginal land, which must be brought back into production. Thus internet based communication through the exchange of experience can have a positive impact even on less and least developed areas.

Erhaltung der Nutzpflanzenvielfalt Eine große Vielfalt von Nutzpflanzen zu erhalten ist dem Dreschflegel e.V. schon seit langem ein besonderes Anliegen. Vor Jahren erkannten wir, daß diese Arbeit erst dann wirklich fruchten kann, wenn biologisch gezüchtetes Saatgut auch zu vielen Menschen in viele Gärten gelangt. Durch den Verkauf des Saatgutes kann die Vermehrungsarbeit jedoch nicht finanziert werden. Weitergehende Aufgaben haben wir in den vergangenen Jahren, soweit es in unseren Kräften stand, neben der Vermehrungsarbeit unterstützt: * intensive züchterische Arbeit an vernachlässigten alten Sorten oder ungewöhnlichen neuen Formen, die Gärtnerinnen und Gärtnern sonst vorenthalten bleiben * die politische Arbeit, mit der wir bestrebt sind, die Entwicklung gesetzlicher Regelungen und gesellschaftlicher Strukturen, die die Sortenverarmung wesentlich verursacht haben, in unserem Sinne umzugestalten. Dabei hat sich mehr und mehr gezeigt, daß diese Arbeiten im Rahmen der betrieblichen Vermehrungstätigkeit nicht zu leisten sind und in einen anderen Rahmen gestellt werden müssen, wenn sich hier in Zukunft mehr bewegen kann.

Tomaten im Freiland Tomaten sind seit dem Beginn ihrer Verbreitung in Deutschland am Anfang des letzten Jahrhunderts zu einem der wichtigsten Gemüse geworden. Pro Jahr und Person werden über 14 kg Tomaten verzehrt, Tendenz steigend. Im Inland werden im Erwerbsanbau nicht einmal 10% des Bedarfs erzeugt. Tomaten sind eines der wichtigsten Produkte des ökologischen Gemüsebaues. Sie werden in (fast) jeder Gärtnerei ? zunehmend als Qualitätstomaten - angebaut. Viele Gärtnereien vermarkten in den Monaten April und Mai auch Jungpflanzen. Etwa 14 Millionen Deutsche nennen den Garten als Hobby und jeder zweite Haushalt verfügt über einen Garten. Es werden in Deutschland jährlich etwa 40 Mio. Tomatenpflanzen angebaut; dabei wird der Gesamtertrag aus dem erwerbsmäßigen Anbau durch die Produktion in privaten Gärten mindestens erreicht, wenn nicht überschritten. Begrenzender Faktor im Freilandanbau von Tomaten in Deutschland ist die Kraut- und Braunfäule geworden, die durch den Pilz Phytophthora infestans verursacht wird. Im ökologischen Betrieb findet deshalb praktisch kein Freilandanbau mehr statt und selbst unter Glas und Folie muss mitunter eine empfindliche Ertragseinbuße hingenommen werden. Teilprojekte waren 1. Die Bereitstellung von Saatgut eines mehrjährig regional geprüften Sortiments von modernen und alten Sorten mit Eignung für (i) die Erzeugung von Tomaten im ökologischen Freilandanbau und (ii) die gewerbliche Anzucht von Jungpflanzen. 2. Die Erarbeitung der methodischen Grundlagen für die regionale ökologische Züchtung von Freilandtomaten durch (i) Untersuchungen zur regionalen Differenzierung in der Anbaueignung; (ii) Phytomedizinische Analyse; (iii) Prüfung von Ausleseverfahren für die Feldresistenz gegen Phytophthora; (iv) Bestimmung der Erblichkeit und Entwicklung von Erfassungsmethoden für die Zuchtziele; (v) Bewertung der Zuchtziele aus der Sicht von ErzeugerInnen und VerbraucherInnen. 3. Die Bereitstellung eines genetisch breiten Pre-Breeding-Materials für ein langfristiges Züchtungsprogramm zur Entwicklung Phytophthora-toleranter Freilandtomaten für den ökologischen Anbau.

ETK is a small environmental NGO based in Budapest, originally formed in 1983 as university club. It has several independent working groups on different topics - over the years we have dealt with a variety of environmental problems. One of our current focus areas is GMOs, on which we have been working since 1997. Our activities here covered advoocacy, awareness raising and campaigning as well. One of our members is a delegate at the national Gene Technologyx Advisory Committee.

Projektgruppe: Pharming. Gentechnisch veränderte Pflanzen und Tiere als Arzneimittel-Produktionsstätten der Zukunft? Pharming ist eine neue Anwendung der Biotechnologie, bei der transgene Pflanzen und Tiere als lebende "Fabriken" zur Produktion von Biopharmazeutika genutzt werden. Biopharmazeutika sind komplexe pharmazeutische Verbindungen, die nicht mit Hilfe konventioneller chemischer Synthese hergestellt werden können, sondern aus biologischem Material isoliert (z. B. aus Blutplasma) oder gentechnisch mit Hilfe von lebenden Zellen produziert werden. Die derzeit häufig angewandte Methode, Biopharmazeutika in transgenen Mikroorganismen herzustellen, ist teuer und ineffektiv. Zudem hat die immer größere Nachfrage nach Biopharmazeutika bereits zu Produktionsengpässen und ersten Fällen von Patientenwartelisten geführt. Bei der Herstellung von Biopharmazeutika in höheren Organismen soll die Erweiterung der Produktionskapazitäten schneller, billiger und vor allem flexibler möglich sein, da die Vergrößerung von Tier-Herden und Anbauflächen kaum technischen Mehraufwand mit sich bringt. Zudem könnten durch Pharming neue Therapeutika entwickelt und vermarktet werden, deren Produktionskosten momentan noch zu hoch sind. Die mit dem Pharming verbundenen Erwartungen sind hoch ? sowohl in Bezug auf den medizinischen Nutzen als auch in Bezug auf den wirtschaftlichen Profit. Allerdings wirft Pharming auch eine Reihe von ethischen, rechtlichen, ökologischen und sozialen Fragen auf, die parallel zur technischen Fortentwicklung dieser Technik diskutiert werden sollten, um einen eventuell bestehenden politischen Handlungsbedarf möglichst frühzeitig zu bestimmen.

Europäisches BürgerInnen-Forum hat ein internationales Notkomitee zum Schutz der Weizensorten der Genbank in Gatersleben mitgegründet. Ihre Motto ist: Keine Gentechnik-Experimente in Gatersleben! In ganz Europa löst die Freisetzung von Gentechnik-Weizen große Empörung aus. Anlässlich des Tages der Biodiversität und als Teil der Proteste gegen den G8-Gipfel ruft deshalb ein Bündnis von Erhaltungs-, Züchtungs-, Bauern-, Umweltorganisationen und Aktionsbündnissen zu einer Demonstration in Gatersleben auf. Die Forderungen des Bündnisses: * Verbot von gentechnischen Freisetzungs- und Gewächshausversuchen in Gatersleben und allen anderen öffentlichen Genbanken! * Sofortige Errichtung eines weitreichenden gentechnikfreien Schutzgebietes rund um die Genbanken, um Verunreinigungen ihrer Bestände sicher und dauerhaft auszuschließen! * Erhalt der öffentlichen, gentechnikfreien Genbanken und des freien Zugangs zu ihnen! * Nach wie vor: Verbot der Freisetzung und des Anbaus gentechnisch manipulierter Pflanzen! * Offenlegung der bisherigen gentechnischen Versuche in Gatersleben!

EYFA (European Youth For Action) developed from a tour that was initiated by a Swedish/German group in 1986 to save the old forests in Europe: then named European Youth Forest Action. From these 'routes', it developed into a platform for grassroots movements working to transform local and international communities in their approach to environment and social, political and economical positions. The international office located in Amsterdam coordinates EYFA's activities through administrative and communication functions and being the network's contact point for sharing local information. We further support and encourage grassroots projects and initiatives in the following ways: * Giving advice, knowledge and support in the activities and assist with fund raising and application writing, putting together projects and networking. * Dissemination of call outs and information on environmental and social justice issues * Organizing exchanges, seminars, trainings, network gatherings, projects & actions Our main aim is to encourage people's initiative and autonomy; people feeling empowered to act and to raise their voices in decision making processes that effect their lives.

Technologische Entwicklungen haben einen ganz wesentlichen Einfluss darauf, wie sich Gebiete mit natürlichen und strukturellen Nachteilen im Verhältnis zu Gunstlagen entwickeln. Ein Schwerpunkt dieses Forschungsfeldes besteht in der Analyse und Bewertung der Auswirkungen von Gen- und Biotechnologie in Bezug auf ihre ökologischen, ökonomischen und sozialen Dimensionen sowie das Aufzeigen, Entwerfen und Entwickeln von alternativen Handlungs- und Gestaltungsoptionen primär mit Blickrichtung Berggebiete (z.B. gentechnikfreie Gebiete). Im zweiten Schwerpunkt wird von der These ausgegangen, dass fast alle wirtschaftlichen, insbesondere aber landwirtschaftlichen Aktivitäten direkte und indirekte Wirkungen auf die biologische Vielfalt entfalten. Vor allem im ökologisch sensiblen Berggebiet gilt es, aufbauend auf Erfahrungen aus der Vergangenheit, die gegenwärtigen Auswirkungen neuer Aktivitäten auf die Biodiversität abzuschätzen und neue Konzepte zu ihrem Schutz zu entwickeln. Dabei sind vor allem auch sozioökonomische Disziplinen gefordert. Im Rahmen dieses Forschungsfeldes stehen somit auch Fragen der Bewertung von Ökosystemfunktionen der Biodiversität, der Entwicklung von wirtschaftlichen Anreizmaßnahmen, sowie deren marktwirtschaftliche Einbettung zur Diskussion.

The Federation coordinates and supports the actions of its members as long as these actions are in accordance with the principles on which the federation was founded. The Federation submits its views and positions to the Parliamentary Committee on the Environment as well as to other parliamentary committees and participates in national committees, which have been put together based on relevant laws. The Federation makes its activities known to the public, organizes exhibitions, conferences and lectures on environmental and cultural issues, participates in radio and television programmes for the promotion of its positions and informs citizens on the issues that it deals with.In addition, the Federation participates in environmental programmes of the European Union and the Council of Europe and is a member of International and European Environmental Organizations like the IUCN, the MedForum, the EEB (European Bureau for the Environment) and the MIO-ECSDE, and is in direct contact with the European Committee as well as with International Environmental NGOs like the WWF and Greenpeace

España es el principal productor de transgénicos en Europa. En 2006 se cultivaron 53667 hectáreas de maíz transgénico (único cultivo transgénico legal), según datos de la industria biotecnológica. Desde 1998 España ha venido cultivando OMG sin que se realice ningún tipo de seguimiento al respecto, sin que se sepa exactamente cuánto o dónde se cultivan y con una absoluta falta de transparencia. Desde Amigos de la Tierra llevamos años luchando para terminar con esta situación. En España no existe una legislación que proteja la agricultura convencional y ecológica de la contaminación por transgénicos. Desde el Ministerio de Agricultura y el de Medio Ambiente se han presentado varios borradores de Decreto sobre la llamada ?coexistencia? entre la agricultura transgénica y la convencional y ecológica. Todos los borradores presentados han sido claramente insuficientes. En repetidas ocasiones, una amplia coalición de organizaciones nos hemos dirigido al gobierno para expresar nuestra opinión sobre esta legislación , consiguiendo, a través de esta movilización social, paralizar una ley claramente perjudicial para el medio ambiente y la salud pública.

GCAP demands solutions that address the issues of public accountability, just governance and the fulfilment of human rights; trade justice; a major increase in the quantity and quality of aid and financing for development; and debt cancellation. GCAP also affirms that gender equality must also be at the heart of eradicating poverty.

The campaign is calling on the Government for a Freeze on: * the growing of genetically modified plants and the production of genetically modified farm animals for any commercial purpose * imports of genetically modified foods, plants, farm crops and farm animals, and produce from genetically modified plants and animals * the patenting of genetic resources for food and farm crops The GM Freeze campaign is supported by an alliance of national organisations who share the public's deep concern over the speed at which genetic engineering is being introduced into food and farming. The alliance encompasses a wide range of interests including environmental campaigns, trade unions, development charities and religious groups. They are united by a belief that we must stop and think about the huge implications of this new technology and the questions that remain to be answered about its safety and impact.

Πολλές ελληνικές εταιρείες ζωικών προϊόντων προμηθεύονται αποκλειστικά μη μεταλλαγμένες ζωοτροφές. Μεγάλες γαλακτοβιομηχανίες είναι πλέον σε θέση να πιστοποιήσουν ότι το σύνολο των ζωοτροφών που χρησιμοποιούν δεν περιέχει μεταλλαγμένα συστατικά. Αυτό μας δίνει τη δύναμη να συνεχίσουμε να αγωνιζόμαστε μέχρι να εξασφαλίσουμε οριστικά πως τα μεταλλαγμένα δεν θα καταλήξουν στο πιάτο μας. Η μεγάλη αυτή εξέλιξη οφείλεται στη δύναμη των καταναλωτών και στη συνεχιζόμενη στήριξή τους στο έργο μας. Ένα μεγάλο ευχαριστώ και μπράβο λοιπόν σε όλους σας!

Greenpeace s'oppose à la culture d'OGM en plein champ car elle conduit inévitablement à la dissémination des OGM dans l'environnement et à leur introduction dans la chaîne alimentaire. Toutefois, Greenpeace ne s'oppose pas à la recherche en milieu confiné, ni à la fabrication de médicaments ou d'autres substances, à l'aide de micro-organismes génétiquement modifiés, tant que leurs conditions de confinement sont efficaces.

GMOs should not be released into the environment as there is not adequate scientific understanding of their impact on the environment and human health. We advocate immediate interim measures such as labelling of GE ingredients, and the segregation of genetically engineered crops and seeds from conventional ones. We also oppose all patents on plants, animals and humans, as well as patents on their genes. Life is not an industrial commodity. When we force life forms and our world's food supply to conform to human economic models rather than their natural ones, we do so at our own peril.

?Wir sind die Zukunft!? Bei Greenpeace engagieren sich Jugendliche die in Umwelt- aber auch sozialen Fragen etwas bewegen wollen. Wir möchten das ganze Schönreden gentechnisch veränderter Lebensmittel nicht mehr akzeptieren. Die Atomkraft ist für uns ein Gefahrenherd, der jederzeit ausbrechen kann und nie berechenbar sein wird. Das sinnlose Töten von Robben, Walen und Fischen, deren Zahl sowieso schon stark dezimiert wurde, ist für uns unverständlich. Wir wünschen uns für alle zukünftigen Generationen eigentlich eine lebenswerte Zukunft, doch sehen mit Schrecken Klimakatastrophen, Urwaldzerstörung und leeren Meeren entgegen. Zeit zu handeln!
