Outline:
En este taller daremos vistazo general acerca de la situación actual de las patentes y movimientos de resistencia contra la biopiratería y las patentes a la vida. Se incluirán discusiones recientes acerca de las patentes en plantas y animales granja aplicadas a especímenes criados normalmente. Posteriormente se abordará el tema de las patentes en plantas GE y algunos casos de estudio sobre biopiratería relacionados a la industria farmacéutica. La situación del acceso y reparto de beneficios en este contexto, también será incluido en la discusión.

Tina Goethe works for the organisation SWISSAID in Switzerland which is engaged in development politics and questions related to food sovereignty, (www.swissaid.ch). She will present a global coalition against patents on seeds and farm animals (www.no-patents-on-seeds.org)
Mariam Mayet works for the African Centre Biosafety, she will especially talk a about a case of Biopiracy from South Africa (www.biosafetyafrica.net)
Mute Schimpf is working for Misereor, the German Catholic Bishops' Organisation for Development (www.misereor.de). Misereor has many partners in the development countries and was for example active against a patent of Dupont on high-oil maize from Latin America.
Geoff Tansey, a well known author from UK will talk about “Global rules, patent power and the future control of food” ( www.tansey.org.uk).
